In this tutorial, we look at a couple of ways to get a partial clip onto the timeline in Premiere Pro. Both are very useful and have their place so it is nice to learn both methods.
To insert a sub-clip, you first have to create the sub-clip from the original clip. This sub-clip will create a new entry in the bins and will reference only that smaller section of the original clip by default. An option when creating the sub-clip will let you include the entire original clip even though it references the smaller section by default.
If you only want a small portion of a clip but you don’t want extra items in the bin or need the other benefits of sub-clips, you can also add a partial clip to the timeline by temporarily change the in/out points of the clip. To do this, we saved the original values, changed the in/out points for the section we want, add that section to the timeline, and then change the values back to the original values.
